Garvin Gate Blues Festival
Digital + Print Media, Web Design, Copywriting
Tagline: “We’ve Got the Blues”
Contracted in March 2019 by the board of the Garvin Gate Blues Festival in Louisville, KY for a full brand redesign. The festival was in the beginning planning stages for it’s 25th year and, as the main supporting event for the Garvin Gate Association in Old Louisville, found themselves desperately in need of a brand facelift.
Logo + Branding
The purpose behind this design was the intent of togetherness - GGBF has been around for years and wanted to keep the festival accessible to the current demographic, while bringing a fresh, modern take to attract a wider breadth of attendees. Because festival design doesn’t require quite the same amount of restraint, EGC took the design brief and ran with it, implementing a wide array of colors and carefully coordinated fonts to give the feel of the event of nostalgia, while eliciting fresh-feeling, excited emotion.
One of the main complaints about the previous festival website was that information was incredibly hard to find. People were unable to get excited about the festival merely because they couldn’t find important details and were turned off by the dated appearance of one of the largest blues festivals in the region. Before implementing the custom, multi-color graphics and design, EGC framed out the site, keeping mind and great care to maintain easily-accessible information while keeping users wide-eyed and excited for more.
Media + Merchandise
EGC converted the digital design to an entire event print package, consisting of large-scale stage banners, posters, merchandise, and all the traditional festival needs. Also conceptualized by EGC and added to the festival’s print package was a selfie-banner, at 10x10 wall where Autumn festival goers in Kentucky can self-promote the GGBF name.
Along with merchandise design, EGC created custom graphics, posts, and digital and print advertisements, to be implemented throughout traditional and social media.
